If they wind window down borrow their keys and f'k them off into a hedge. I don't think it's even illegal.

If they get out, then in fear for your life you are entitled to defend yourself with reasonable force.

Hmm, chucking them into their hedge might count as "permanently depriving" under section 6 of the 1968 Theft act. Just chuck the keys underneath the car and let the buggers grovel for 'em.

If you're feeling mean, double lock the doors so they have to climb out of the open window, then grovel under the car for their keys.

I dunno, I'd say they could see where they went. A traffic copper told me that chucking a mobile phone onto a roof was not theft so I reckon fair game. They're hardly going to report it saying "I was minding my own business driving liek a twunt through a residential area and..."

Next time just slow right down as following a few metres behind is only appropriate at very low speeds. This should either make them back off or overtake you. Either way you are out of the situation. It's not a race out there - did you really need to stay in front?

And if you do need to stay in front, then do a proper job of it and hoof it!

not wise, but forgivable.
If someones tail gating but im crawling along then ill pick it up to normal driving speed, if they continue to tailgate at a faster speed then I'll slow back down again and let them past. But I wouldnt speed up once they try to pass, its not worth it they're obviously a selfish and wreckless road user so f'em let them on their way.

They'll **** off the wrong person one day and there will be some good old road rage.

It may have been the wrong thing to do in some people's opinion, dad said I should have let them overtake then carry on, however here's the story;

As I was riding down my street a Volvo estate pulled out from a side street very quick behind me, I turned left at a roundabout and accelerated off quite hard, to find out when I looked in the mirror they were right up my ****!

It was on a 30 so I just accelerated hard to 30, after crossing 2 roundabouts, and a quite nasty speed bump, they were tail gating me.

The road I was going down now has a blind exit from the local college and pub liturally next to each other, so as I approach I slow down to 20 - 25mph as people fly out not even looking!

As I passed these entrances the Volvo was less than a metre away from the rear of my bike, so I progressed to 30 to find the Volvo driver indicating to overtake! As it was a residential area and they'd been harrassing me for such a long distance I accelerated as to not let them pass I thought overtaking in a residential area at 1:30pm when the limit was 30 and I was stuck on it, I thought overtaking was inapprorpiate, as there was a junction either side within 200 yards and there was no need to do so.

The roundabout at the bottom of the road I was to turn right and so was she, she overtook me on the roundabout, nearly clipping my leg. I couldn't believe it!

Following this I kept a fair distance back, for mainly my own safety as the **** nearly knocked me off, and as I knew there were traffic lights ahead approaching into town.

To no surprise the lights were on red, I pulled up next to her, would of said she was 50 - 60, knocked on her window and shouted that the limit is 30. She ignored me for the first 30 seconds and then started to shake her head at me!

However, thinking about it now I was out of order to speed up cos I would of been able to keep up and have a word anyway, but it was the fact she shook her head and denied she was in the wrong.

Next time just let them do it and leave it be?

Wouldn't say you were in the wrong as such and I think most of us will have reacted the same way at some point, whether we are in the car or on the bike.

However, I would say that although her overtaking you would have been inappropriate, that is not your problem. As long as you make sure you are driving sensibly and legally, it is not your job to try and prevent others from doing the opposite. Clearly she was determined to get past and was going to no matter what so all you did was displace her behaviour to an evn more dangerous and unsuitable enviroment.

I agree with VT, in hindshight, which is a brilliant thing, you should have let her past, taken hr VRM and reported it to the local plod.

Lesson learned and all that tho eh?

How I would react depends on whether Im riding bike or driving car. On bike I let lots of stuff go. When Im in the car with the kids im slightly more likely to let stuff go. If Im in the car on my own I let nothing go. I get real road rage in the car. If someone is tailgating me when Im adhering to speed limit, I give a flash of brake lights, if that doesnt work I stand on brakes, if they hit me its their fault. When on the bike I live for the rule "its not who is right and who is wrong, it is who is right and who is left".
