My mate had one of them, I think it was a 250.
I remember I wanted a Suzuki X5 or a Yamaha RD200 (I had a Yammie Fizzer at the time). Thing is I became a student and didn't pass my test till 7 years ago, so it was a long wait ... wife has a car, but I can't be arsed with them myself ... parking problems, traffic problems etc etc. ![]() |

Cheers Druid.
is 37,000 really that excessive hovis? I mean surely SVs were made to ride daily and aren't your weekend boy-toy. There won't be many SVs with low mileage after that age, do you think?! Hmmm ... No doubt I will have to part with it at some stage ... who knows when the child has flown the nest I might have the pointy and maybe something seriously boy-toy. "I have a Dream!" ![]() |

Put it this way, I already have dibs on my mates curvy that I plan to restore/do-up when he comes to sell it next year.
IF I get it and do it, I'll finish it, and mothball it. I think the curvys stand more of a chance of being a classic than a pointy does.....just because it was the first SV. |

My 10 year old SV has 39,000 miles on it. I asked the local dealer what sort of miles he would expect a 10 year old bike to have done when considering it for a trade in.
He said 25,000 Thats lame, thats 2500 miles a year, thats 3 months of my usual riding every year for ten years and then 9 months on the bus / train. I doubt I will find a buyer for my SV, it has "high" miles despite being looked after, and now its a bit sorry looking after its fight with a citroen. I'll try to sell it, but I may just keep it and use it as a thrash machine / track machine / learn-how-to-do-things-on-bikes machine. Shame, because I know someone will find it to be an excellent first bike, but there are undeniabally better examples of 1999 SV's out there |

Exactly Alpinestar.
I have noticed a few people trying to sell their SVs on here and they are lower mileage than mine. I seriously can't be arsed going through the rigmarole of having time-wasters, tyre-kickers etc. I'll keep my dubya-reg and use her for the worst of the winter. If nothing else, I have ridden her for 31000 of her 37000 miles and she has never been red-lined and though not a pedestrian rider, she's never been thrashed. I like to crack on at a reasonably brisk pace, but I am no Valentino. History of the bike and knowledge is always something worth knowing. I reckon as long as she doesn't fall to bits she's good for another 37K!!!! ![]() |
