I'd avoid Tadley, Oakridge and Popley. Again not all of these little areas are bad, but I have heard some first hand horror stories about them.

Also avoid Crown Heights which are the blue/yellow blocks of flats in the town centre of Basingstoke. The flats themselves are lovely inside, and the location is good - right next to bus and rail stations, but sadly there are a lot of shady people associated with them!

Chineham, Lytchpit, Old Basing, Kempshott and Hatch Warren are all fairly nice areas within Basingstoke and I've never heard anything particularly bad about them.

Many thanks Taz, went to have a look around the places you suggested yesterday and do indeed seem fairly nice.

No worries. Good luck with the house/flat/room hunting. Rent around this area is not particularly cheap in my opinion!

Basingstoke is awesome! I did a stunt show in Feltham the other week and it made me appreciate good old donut city even more than i did before.

Everything that TazDaz has said i'd agree with, but also mention to probably avoid buckskin.

Girlfriend lives in Hatch Warren and its a nice area. Houses aren't massive but they're pleasant enough and you get a community 'feel' to it.

I live in old Basing (next door to the hatch pub) and there's bsolutely no trouble round here. Even after building a load of flats behind us (oh deep joy) we get the odd chavvy **** walking around but no real harm.

I also agree with what TazDaz and Davido have said, i live in kempshott park, its a nice area and the worst thing i've seen is the odd bit of graffity, apart from that its a fine area.

Infact get a tent and you can live in my garden

This is true, I was hoping I'd get a bit more for my money - but I imagine it's better value than Reading? Certainly cheaper than Bromley!

Basingstoke has a great waterpark and a cinema.

Admittedly, all the new-ish flat in the centre of town seem to be full of the unemployed. Pity as the flats look quite nice.
