I've had a stand alone LG player and have a PS3 and found the PS3's quality was spot on whilst the stand alone one lost frames and had issues with codecs etc.

Thanks, took a look, the only difference there from my settings was the limited/full settings for colour depth.

I'm not fussed, the LG blu ray does a sterling job so I've no need to try and improve the PS3, the worse of the problems was a feeling of stuttering, or a lack of smooothness on a fast pan when on 1080p.

This is excellent feedback, thanks. I have looked at the 321 GSX system, but will now consider the Onkyo. I already have an Onkyo CD/DAB which is great.
Basically Im not looking for full surround, just 2.1 will be fine. That was the first attraction to the Bose. I have decided a grand will be set aside for this. And I will be considering some of the kit advised on here.
