I keep all my 'nasties' in a metal cupboard, but point taken, will check it out. Think they have a good stopper, as designed for water on bike.

Then again, motorbikes venting petrol fumes in garages cant be all that clever either.

Well, no, any kind of hydrocarbon fumes would be bad near any possible source of ignition...

If it had got a rubber seal on the screw top you should be OK

Ta muchly O wise orgers
As a cyclist I do not recommend that the Alu bottles are used for holding drink. Alu can dissolve into the water and this has been speculated to be linked with degenarative brain diseases.

MSR make an expensive red Alu bottle marked up as a fuel bottle for stoves. It is exactly the same sort of bottle, except for the closed end being moulded, not welded on. This is so you can pump the bottle up to pressure to run the stove.

Sigg do a similar one that costs about £12. Again all safely COSHH marked. Have a look at these.

I'd have thought the paraffin he'd be drinking would be the immediate concern.

Paraffin isn't very volatile at all, don't worry yourself about it.

Try local motor factors for the clips.

I think you are referring to Corbin clamps

But most places simply call them spring wire hose clips.

You can then get the wider spring steel variety that tend to be used for fuel, ebay spring hose clips

That is like saying petrol isn't very volatile... All "short-medium" chain hydrocarbons are dangerous unless stored correctly.

At the price Ebay sellers I'll carry on using zip ties, which seem to be less harsh on the hose and are free to me.
Thanks Tim for identfying the gizmo I'm referring to
