Er, remember that bloke with the R1 I mentioned?



1) The magnets aren't metal.
2) Any bits should have been picked up by the strainer or filter, you'd be very unlucky to get any top end.

Personally I'd buy a second hand generator rotor/starter, take the sump off, clean the bits out, flush the oil and run it until it (maybe) pops. *Then* you have a spare engine!

something made the engine seize couldnt get 1st or neutal so new engine going in and i may play/fix with this one when ive got thme, wot a mess through.. that r1, mine dont look that bad

Druid you can't get the sump off an SV without splitting the cases.

Looks like exact same failure my GPZ500S had other week.


Teeth breaking off starter gear can happen if it kicks back through trying to start with a low battery.

<small voice>I know, wasn't really thinking and forgot the SV doesn't have a classic 'sump'.

update: all working now and sounding good apart from a slight exhaust blow from where i forgot to refit the gasket from the rear down pipe to the system, D'OH. the only other thing is now the throttle is stiff/tight and wont return! any ideas

Check you havent caught the cables up any where or from what i did the other night, check the right hand side of the throttle bodies that you havent put the pair system pipe on top of the rods that control the butterflies, i had and could only twist my throttle a tiny ammount

You routed the cables differently, move them around until they work

was hoping you wouldnt say that! i did tape them up the way they came off, ther such a pig to remove and refit, i had to remove the bodies b4 i could remove the cables
