They also turned away the Brazilian football team as they were in trackies.

I get the idea - groups steal and break things as well as put off other more affluent customers - but I dont agree with it.

If they could afford to shop there then they wouldn't be working there.

I can't afford to stay in the hotel I work in - does that make me a cretin?

When you're on £5 an hour, dealing with a lot of rude customers and putting £1k /day through the till it's difficult to give a ****. A quarter of your wages goes on getting to work alone.

It doesn't make it ok whatsoever, but there are reasons.

I dont know 2dizzy, i work on awful wage but being in retail you have to expect people to be rude but still remain professional and helpful, just because one customer is rude you shouldnt take it out on the next so what she did was just inexcusable.
DW if she keeps it up im sure she wont be in the job long.

I agree it's not an excuse. Just sometimes it's difficult to remain positive to everyone when you know you're being exploited.

Probably helps i like everyone where i work and the place.
But this sort of thing is becoming more and more common, and very little seems to get done about it by the people at the top or in charge.

My wife uses snobby perfumes and locally can only buy from Selfridges at the Trafford Centre. so Sophie is in good company if House of Fraser do not stock her brand of choice.

That aside, it is up to the retailer to choose what they want to market and who their target customer is. The assistant was the one being snobby not the retailer. But why? at the end of the day she is a shop assistant not a peer of the realm.

Sounds like that particular shop assistant was just a bit crap, not the whole firm. No reason not to complain about her though - if she was rude to a member of my family simply for asking if they stocked something I'd be on the phone to the manager. If HOF are anything like the firm I work for at the moment they should be pushing their staff to give as good customer service as possible cos these are not the times to be picky about where your custom is coming from!!

Reminds me of what my dad told me about when he used to work in Manchester though - he was a mechanic, and when he was doing his Xmas shopping he'd purposely go to the likes of Kendals still in his overalls covered in oil etc. He got amazing service simply cos he looked scruffy and they wanted him out of there asap and without causing a scene!
