There are 2 reasons for taping over the speedo. One as mentioned it can be a distraction and people also like to see if they can be faster down the straight next lap etc and end up in the kitty litter trying to out do there to speed last lap. Not that theres much chance of that on the SV as the top speed is poor anyway.
Another thing that is advisable is take small amounts of food. Don't have a big lunch or tea as this can make you feel tired afterwoods. And have a big **** before each session as its too expensive to have to stop!! LOL

Like you, my SV is my main transport. I did my first track day last year on Metzeler Z6 road tyres at Brands Hatch with MotorSportVision. Had a great time but taking off the mirrors is a good idea, as is the speedo thing.

I strongly suggest you find a Novice Only track day (as in all riders, not just a Novice group in a mixed day).
I was in a supposedly Novice group, yet clearly I was the only novice in that group. It happens when Intermediates and Advanced gets filled up, people book themselves in as Novice just to get track time. Several times I was passed inside, outside, hassled around. I just maintained my course and speed, let them deal with it, try to be predictable.

Do it, have fun, and if you go to Brands you'll experience the best corner in the world: Paddock Hill Bend.

No. If you are taking fairly logical lines, they you shouldn't have to worry about folks behind. As has been said, it is their responsibility to pass you safely not yours to let them through. On the SV you are more likely to be passed on the higher speed sections anyway.

Sounds good to me, was looking towards novice only track days for my first as i know from previous (car) trackdays that when advances or inter get full then novice gets swamped by people who actually know what they are doing.

I noticed on your post your SV is restricted. Can it be removed for the trackday so you can experience the full power of the bike in a no car enviroment??

And note that not all TD co's will let you on with a restricted license.

Focused Events will not accept restricted licences full stop.

With NoLimits and HotTrax, it depends on teh circuit. None of the MSV circuits accept restricted licences.

The SV is fine for trackdays. More satisfying chasing the straight line warriors through the bends.

It's not a bad bike on the track but definitely benefits from tweaking if you want to keep at it. As said you'll get eaten by the big boys but you can give a good rogering to the ones on 600s if you're on the ball. If you pick a track like Rockingham national then you can't break 100mph all day anyway. It's a good one to start as it's really wide and very grippy.

I was planning to use the full power ECU for the trackday, but yes i will have to use a company that allows a restricted license.

Do it. A short circuit track (such as Rockingham) as they suits the SV well. The SV is all about the twistie bits not the straights.

You are in charge and control of the bike. It's up to you how 'enthusiastic' you want to be.
