a long long time ago, a mates bike was nicked from outside the pub. Unfortunately for him, the thief was recognised.

about 40 angry bikers converge on his house and he is dragged out. When his garage door is opened there is newly nicked bike and 3 others. By the time the police arrived both his hands had been put on the kerb and a lump hammer applied.

Nobody knew anything, he did not know who had done it etc. (btw it wasn't me). But I doubt he was ever again capable of gripping a set of bars.

I've claimed against loss and theft on my visa before but it was a while ago so they may have changed the rules.
For the cost of a call I'd give it a try.

I hate bike thieves, filthy scum who should be manacled and pelted with old sprocket sets! While working in a bike shop I saw too many people who lost their locked up and secured bikes because Bike nicking scum think it is fine to do it. The saddest part was seeing kids who had been robbed while riding. That is just plain nasty.

They gave me a leaflet on being a victim of crime though... that really helped.

That is ridiculous that they wont check the camera, all they have to do is put it on play x8 and keep an eye on the bike. When it disappears, then whiz it back a little bit. Lazy c*nts!

small update... tried a few of the suggestions on here but haven't really got anywhere. The mastercard company only insure it if it was broken or damaged on delivery, not for theft and the home insurance has an excess of £200 so no joy there either.
Not wanting to get into any police bashing (my wife's a detective btw!) but I had the same initial reaction as everyone else. I was surprised to get a phone call on Sunday night though saying they were now going to review the CCTV footage... not holding out much hope anymore but at least there's a bit of effort being shown.
In the meantime, if anyone in the London area has a cheapo crappy (but still in working conidtion) bike that they want to get rid of, drop me a PM!
