Andy
I too work in a hospital. I pay £10 a month regardless of whether I get a space or not. Like others it varies as to salary/banding. The consultants pay the most but it's capped at £25 a month. I have worked there 10 years, took me 4 years to get a car park permit!! the other two hospitals in the trust have only just started to have to pay Oh and they get free tea and biscuits but don't get me started on that one
I too go to work on my bike though now and to be fair, they provide sheltered parking with plenty to chain bike to. Just wish the scrotes on the mopeds and scooters wouldn't take two spaces up
I still pay my £10 even though bike parking is free, just for the occasions that I have to go in the car.

There's another side to this:
Couple of weeks ago £18 for day's parking at hospital.
Ferkin glad I didn't go for the 42 days consecutive radiation treatment!

Most of my companies sites have parking for about 2-3000 cars. I had an allocated space when I was based in Knutsford. now Preston based and I have to fight for one of the approx 500 empty spaces when I arrive of a morning. We did have one site in Lincoln where staff were expected to buy contract parking in the NCP across the road. I know that caused resentment with management who had site parking.

My wife works at Chorley/Preston hospitals. she still pays her parking fee although very rarely drives as she knows there is a wait and she would not get a replacement should she give it up.

At her trust the parking charge was implemented to improve security. there is now a battle as the trust now want to increase staff parking costs to subsidise operating costs. something that was explicitly written out when charging was agreed.

As for charging patients, wrong wrong wrong. Lancs has a single visit charge and not by the hour, long term patients and their visitors can buy weekly passes for about £5 that covers as many visits as they require. Whilst undergoing daily radio therapy, the wife was given a hospital parking pass permitting use of the disabled bays for the 2 months she was under treatment.

I'm currently working at my 2nd hospital. I currently pay about £6 a month to park, which would compare favourably to the £28 per month it would have cost had I driven to my last employer. Costs the same for all employees, unless you are a consultant and choose to apply for a special permit for the parking spaces right by the door, which costs more.

As for parking charges for patients, I can see things both ways. My previous employer was in a city centre, and as such had a large multi-story car park. Whilst it did cost an arm and a leg to park there, how many spaces do you think patients would have found if it had been free? Full of shoppers me thinks... No really easy solution to that one.

Don't pay a penny. And I have an armed guard at the entrance.
I suppose working on a RAF Base has its advantages.

Thats for unlimited use of the airport short and long term car parks - there are no staff car parks

Not yet, although Nottingham is supposedly introducing a parking levy of £400 per parking space at business premises which my utterly ****e employer will no doubt try to pass on.
