Yeah am thinking router too. Assuming you have an 'allow all outbound' rule, you shouldn't need anything else set - you only need the inbound rules if you have a local ftp server. You could try removing them, and maybe disable UPnP, but otherwise you might need to try a different router firmware.
Also, just to rule it out, try forcing the Transfer Settings (in Site Manager in FileZilla) and try it with both Active and Passive. |

Just whack your computer in the DMZ of the router to rule it out. Or bypass the router all together if you have a separate modem/router.
What company is hosting your site? |

Hmm, just tried that FTP account you sent me, works perfectly in Filezilla and CoreFTP
Hosting is with Godaddy, router firmware is up to date Tried forcing active and passive modes with my account and leaving it as "default" but the server switches to passive automatically and the same error occurs

so...
Testing from ftptest.net to Go Daddy works, so it's not the server. Testing from pc to another FTP account works, so it's not the client/router. Out of ideas am afraid - as hongman said, best call Go Daddy |

Go daddy are open 24/7 btw, the UK number auto diverts to the us of a.
I know they are migrating some hosting accounts over to new platforms, possible something needs looking at for your account? A few times I have had to call them up because my DNS entries got "stuck". Quick call to reset the zone file and all is good. Hopefully it's something easy like that ![]() I do rate GD. |

Spoke to Godaddy support just now, very helpful and no waiting in line
There's an issue with some accounts and FTP right now, there's no ETA on the fix but hopefully won't take long, as long as I know it's not an issue with my network that's fine with me Also sorted out a minor issue with my email account as well Total call time less than 10min Thanks for all the help and advice guys, will wait and see what happens in the next few days...

Are you with virgin media by any chance???
If so they have a peering issue associated with godaddy, as the internet watch foundation blacklisted them as people were hosting child porn websites on their web servers, this was resolved and they were removed from the blacklist. However issues still remain More specifically i believe some of VM's network peers (neighbouring networks) do not have a route to the godaddy server, so the results will vary depending what route your traffic takes to exit out of VM's network, this is obviously done on a per packet basis resulting in intermittent connectivity issues (one packet may take one route successful the next packet may take another route and get dropped) Last edited by grimey121uk; 22-02-11 at 02:14 PM. |
