No, you can use the clutch through every gear at any speed but I find it smoother on the box at about 40mph upwards.

Persoanly I find it smoother & better but if you find the clutch easier to use it won't damage the bike in any way. I had a 125 I could break when learning to clutchless shift so I learnt a while back. Stick to the clutch if youre used to it, or look into it if your interested. Lots of helpful vids on YT.

Yea I tend to do all the services & checks myself then you know the've been done & your mind is at rest, the filter is a 10min job, 15-20 taking your time. keep us posted.

I don't wanna derail, but I personally do not see the point of clutchless shifts on the road, I bet I can change almost as fast using the clutch, I get if you're good at them they may be smoother, but more chance of a clunky change if you get it slightly wrong.

I'll stick with my clutch ta

With the bike idelling, carefully spray some WD 40 around the air box and carb conections.
If the idle changes you have a leak.

Is this normal? The gunk smells of petrol and I've thought that nothing liquid should go through an airbox?

The filter itself seems fine, few dried up leaf bits but I've hoovered them out.

It's emulsiefeld oil. The engine needs to breathe.
It's not that cloged.and may be down to cold engine short trip running.
Clean it out and check it again next week .
Ps that includes the pipes

Fairy liquid at a push ,Make sure its dry when you pop it back.
If you have some engine wash like gizer that's better.
I'd use brake cleaner and dry with compresed air.
