Do it, if you wait for the weather in this country you'll never do anything.
I went from Yorkshire up into Northumberland and then through Kielder Forest (I was on the GS12) and across into Dumfries & Galloway to 1st stop in Portpatrick. Then, up over the Erskine Bridge and onto the A82 and up the West Coast to 2nd stop Ullapool (long day indeed, pi55ed it down) Next day, Scourie, Durness, Cape Wrath, Tongue and JoG then down to 3rd stop Grantown-on-Spey. Then back down over The Lecht via Tomintoul, Ballater and Braemar to the FRB and home. The weather can be fantastic in the AM and crap in the PM or vice-versa. Don't worry about it. The Green Wellie at Tyndrum on the A82 is worth a visit 'cos the southbound bikers can tell you what to expect weather-wise up on Rannoch Moor (usually awful) and The Ceilidh Place at the far end of Ullapool is my favourite place in Scotland (have a look at www.theceilidhplace.com and click music on) JoG is boring after you've had the photo-call, Grantown's nice but Aviemore is better. I carried a couple of Sigg 1ltr alloy fuel bottles of petrol, just in case, as some of the "petrol stations" up at the top end only open when they feel like it. Enjoy. If you're anywhere near Portpatrick.........The Crown Hotel, seafood,Guinness, watching the sun go down, table by the harbour.......bliss. The photo's are Scourie campsite, nice food in the cafe. Overlooking Loch Eriboll and near Cape Wrath. Last edited by Small Clanger; 13-05-12 at 10:57 AM. |

ps. Pray for fine weather when you get to the A835 Tore/Ullapool road. It's the best biking road I've ever ridden. I've turned 'round, gone back and done again a couple of times. You may have guessed, I love Scotland.
![]() Good fun in the Jeep or Landy too. Last edited by Small Clanger; 13-05-12 at 10:57 AM. |

The org has spoken!
Going wins by 10 -5 votes. All my kriega packs are packed, including thermals and all waterproof stuff! Gonna set off tomorrow lunch, whatever the weather and plan to spend night in Dunoon before setting off Tuesday, up the coast, round loch Fyne, up to Oban - FtWilliam and then across to Kyle of Lochalsh. Overnighting in Stromeferry and then decide to either tour Isle of Skye or continue north up to Ullapool & then Durness???? Will be playing by ear and possibly text East Coasters (Dean ![]()

Just seen our Local Forecast and the Met Office has issued a weather warning for snow from John-a-Groates to Yorkshire
