Get into something that will make you happy to get up in the morning and go to work whatever the money side.In the long run its better to be content than be on a higher pay grade.

Do what you think you will enjoy. Yesterday I turned down a job in the security department (I was approached internally, I didn't apply) because I enjoy doing network support at the moment. I originally moved away from being a sysadmin because i preferred networking, and it seems that still holds true.

With your skill set, anything (within reason) you chose to do can be made to pay well enough given a little time and perhaps some bits of paper with logos on to grease the wheels of employment.

Thing is, until the last 2 weeks (after being notified of the chance of being made redudant) I was happy to get up in the morning.

Ok, maybe the last 2 months were not great - new COO who's style I didn't like, but it was a great job, SysAdmining for a company doing something I believed in.

Still in the end, an amicable split which will have a good Reference or 2 from it.

Well I did the opposite to you, started in Networking, moved to Coding then to Sysadmining.

I liked Networking, just got disillusioned due to lack of opportunities to play

I do like the idea of getting my CEH qualification - thats Certified Ethical Hacker beats a CCNA

That is, if I get the job

I like the sound of option 2. Even if you end up not liking it you could go back to option 1.

A nice settlement to tide you over and a prospective pay raise are lovely but botttom line, can you live on a 10% cut if you had too?

If the answer is yes, go for option 2.

If the answer is, no I couldn't pay my bills, stick with option 1 untill you can afford an option 2 further down the road.
