Gotta tell you, if anyone threatened me like that they'd have to back it up then and there. But how does that solve anything? "You're lucky not to get a slap". So that's alright then is it? There is no other way the bouncer could have handled a cheeky 'customer'?

Lets put this into context. No matter who thinks the OP is rude (and feel free to tell him so) this doesn't justify any sort of threat of violence. And IMO comments stating he deserves a slap are ridiculous. People can be civil with each other - even if they disagree or argue - without resorting to all that. Just for using a toilet for god sake.

A bouncer in a coffee shop threatening to beat you up?

Yeah okay, OP is clearly a ***** and should be hung drawn and quartered for a sarcastic comment...

And another thing - it's not a public place. It's private property and they can invite who they wish to stay or leave

Didn't say he should have got a slap, didn't say it was justified to give him a slap. Just said he was lucky not to have received one as he was clearly antagonising someone who was just trying to do his job. Could have all been easily avoided had he not decided to be a smart-ass. And for the record I do feel the OP was being rude but as I wasn't there I don't know if that feeling is justified. And civility goes both ways client to employee as well as employee to client. If that was my store and I saw that behaviour the bouncer would be reprimanded and OP barred unless he could be more respectful to my staff.

Also "reasonable force" can be used to remove a person from private property.

Tbh all could have been avoided by answering " yeah whats up" then getting the staff to back you up on your purchase or show a receipt

however choosing the smart ass route you deserve to be intimidated.

if he wasnt the bouncer would you have acted the same way?

I had to say 'Excuse me' twice to a bloke leaving a table in a cafe today.

If he had been a smartarse and said 'you are excused' to me, I would have just stuck the iphone he had left on the table in my pocket.

As it was, he was not a ****, so he got his iphone back

The thing I don't get is why this had to escalate in the first place?

Yeah, he shouldn't have threatened to slap you, but why was he saying 'excuse me' in the first place?

Were you in his way, had he got in yours, was he trying to block your way? This isn't explained.

Maybe this is why some of the replies think you are being off...... In one of these situations maybe a 'cocky' response may be justified. In others it could come across as you being adversarial.

Personally I find it's best not to rile bouncers. They're not always the most intelligent, or able to take a joke, so don't want to take a chance with them. If you don't like the way the bouncer treat you I'd suggest that letter won't get you very far (you've seen what the response on here has been). Maybe have a word with the staff and suggest that if it happens again you (and all your Soho mates), who I presume are fairly regular there, will vote with your feet. Might get them to actually have a word with the staff.

Think it was he walked straight off the street and in towards the toilets, which are for patrons only. The bouncer had missed the fact he had already been in and bought coffee, which he had takrn outside.

Still...

"Excuse me"
"Yes mate"
"Sorry, you can't use the toilets, patrons only"
"I already bought my coffee and drank it outside mate, I'm just using the toilet before I leave. That girl at the counter served me if you want to ask her'

Would have been a much easier resolution to the situation.
