i used the genuine wifi adapter on mine for years but recently my internet has gone down hill (sky, nuff said really) so i had to hard wire it in otherwise BF3 was unplayable at peak times.

Wireless + bad connection = much swearing

I have sky with all the devices mentioned previously attached with no issues at all. Strange.

probably just my area, i live in a newish estate but the max that sky can give me is 2mbps, in reality im getting about 1.5mbps. I think it was plusnet or someone that quoted they could get up 8-10mbps. Stuck with them as I've been informed I'm not allowed to get rid of sky telly

I have just read that u cannot use generic wifi adaptors as the normally require additional drivers which the xbox cannot support

Did that nugget of info come from a Microsoft or Xbox website? Even so buying the Xbox adapter + £100 will buy the 260gb Xbox with built in adapter! Go on treat the nipper to a new Xbox for Christmas!

Some of the cables to your cab are longer than the others, you're probably unlucky.

Although when it comes to online gaming ping time is more important that throughput speed.

No couldn't find anything on xbox site. It was on a few techno geek sites though.

According to speedtest.net (not sure how accurate it is) in the past few weeks as my internet performance has been up and down, my hub has changed from winchester to Canterbury and last time I checked is now Bournemouth. Ping was something like 59

Ignore the server it's pinging to (as long as it's in england), thats just down to the best ping time, 59 is highish but not too bad, you might try pingtest.net to get more than a one shot test.

or use dosbox to run a continuous ping to the bbc or google.

Speedtest is pretty reliable as far as throughput goes.

What distance are you looking at? Might be cheaper to buy a length of flat network cable and run it straight from your router to the xBox under the carpet?
