Well I doubt any of us have copies of your insurance terms and conditions to hand.

You inexplicably failed to issue them to us.

You're being such a tit???? All I was asking was is it possible? Anybody done same or similar? Why all the "I think" posts?

Because I don't know the answer and so far it doesn't seem like anyone else does either.

I know with other insurances there's a time limit between the accident and reporting it but I've never tried it for motor insurance.

Bit late to start thanking me for that now.

I'll let this thread get on with sinking without a trace then as nobody else has an answer either...

My goodness.

Ad's actually been fairly correct, so he has been helpful, actually.

A motor insurance policy will have something in it that goes like this:

This means that the policy operates on occurrence coverage - i.e., you claim with the insurer that you were with at the point that the damage/loss occurred, rather than when the claim is to be made.

So you need to make a claim with your previous insurer.

However, this may be complicated by the fact that you've not made the claim before now, as there are often reporting clauses within the Ts+Cs. Even if there isn't one, if the claim was not made quickly and the damage listed, the insurer could refuse to handle the claim, as you'd be unable to prove when the damage occurred.

Did you notify the insurers at the point of the accident? Or did you ask her about her home insurance (as this may cover third-party liability)? How long ago did it happen?

Cheers for being definitive, Ad was all "I think" which was not what I was after.

About 8 months ago, I cannot tell you about her insurance as when I came out of tesco the damage was done (although not too bad) and a random guy came over while I was checking the bike and told me that a woman had just hit the bike with her trolley and scarpered. Tesco were less than helpful. Since then the plastics have shaken themselves to bits, just wondering if it's worth approaching my insurers or not?

Was all holding fine for a while but now it is bordering on dangerous, so I need it fixed, just curious if my new insurers would likely pay or not?

What can I say, I'm a realist. Everything is always I think pending further data.

Did you get her details? If yes, then a claim against her would be in order I suppose.

However, I think that your best bet would be to take the offending bit off and repair it yourself. You would be amazed at how relaxing a little plastic welding can be.
