Yeah I'd totally agree. I'm just new to biking and still working it all out. My mate stressed the feel and hear theory but just said to bak it up with the rev counter if I was worried.
I think I'm getting the hang of it tho... Can hear her either over revving (too low) or feeling lumpy (too high)! Using the rev counter less and less. I'm glad I didn't waste my money on a gear indicator. ![]() |

I have one built in on the street. It's nice to know a quick glance and you can reassure yourself you are in the correct gear for the corner.

With regards tryin to get into 7th gear - I used to do this, just note what your revs are at 70 in 6th so you only got to glance at revs to know if u can move up a gear, Simples.

Got one on my FZ1-s. It's a useful tool in that I don't have to think, "Which gear am I in? How many do I need to go down for the next corner/roundabout"
As a lazy, clutch-in, drop x gears, release clutch kind of rider I find it helps avoid those lock up the rear wheel moments that tend to upset the Mrs if she's on the pillion.... I probably should learn to count ( and remember what I'd counted to for > 30 seconds) and also learn to be a bit smoother letting the clutch out, but as I said, I'm lazy.... |

I had a GI Pro on my GSXR750, even though it had a factory indicator it wasn't bright/clear enough. Only used it for track days though and to make sure I was going 3 to 2 and not 2 to 1 when braking hard for the slow corners! I wouldn't have time to look at the rev and do the calculation!
I don't think I used it to gauge if I was in the right gear for a corner on the road as surely the revs tell you more than a gear inidcator (dropping down to 1st in error excluded!). Agree it stops you trying to engage that elusive 7th though!
