something to consider.

the SV is a nice light nimble bike all be it with crap suspension, if you increase the rear tyre width you will slow the steering down and couple this with the crap suspension and it's a recipe for disaster. the SV is fun to ride as it's very nimble, slow the steering down and you take that fun away.

a SS has good suspension that can be set up to reduce the effect to a degree, the SV has no such luxuries. a SS chassis is set up more aggressively than the SV for faster turn in.

so what does this all mean.. well you end up with a bike feels like a barge. ok so it will feel more planted due in part to the slower steering but you might end up running wide everywhere.

can you use the full width of the 160 that's on the SV?

yes it might look 'cool' but in reality it's not.

unless your prepared to spend lot and lots of money sorting out the suspension first your not helping.

but if looks are all that matters then bash on.

Do a GSXR front end conversion too then they will match - should? improve steering.

or better still. sort the suspension, keep the same tyre profiles and laugh your head off at just how much more fun it is

seriously, a fully sorted SV is something to be tried. it turns a good bike into a bloooody great bike. ok so it's not that fast but i can sure go round corners.

I'm still going to do the mod, as I'm going to do the gsxr front end conversion as well in a few months.

Hey Guys,

If you guys are interested in the GSXR Rear Wheel Conversion Kits, we can do a "GROUP BUY"

On average the cost to buy the parts here in USA is about 52 GBP (After paypal Conversion rate and fees)

I can buy the parts needed to be machined down here in the USA... So no need to ship parts from the UK to the USA to be machined.

And, I can ship all items to a single UK address, then you guys can sort parts there in the UK. Save your selves a lot of money on combined international shipping.

Some guys have ask for lower cost invoices... It is a possibility to lower the cost to the actual 52 GBP cost of the parts, if it helps you guys.

Some think that the GSXR wheel is way heavier... The GSXR rear wheel it self it's about 2 lbs lighter than the SV650 rear wheel. And if you compare a light GSXR set up to the OEM SV650 from factory set up... We are talking about over 5 lbs lighter.

Some think that the wider 180 rear tire would slow down "turn in"... You can easily adjust geometry. I like a taller rear end which helps with a better Swing Arm Angle, and gives you better steering response...

I have not had issues with "turn in" at the local race tracks... I can out brake and pass riders of my skill level on much faster motorcycles... And still manage to turn in with faster cornering speeds...

Perhaps. Is the wheel/tire combination lighter?
No matter, if you're after the 'look', that's what's important to you.
My understanding of why 600's are fitted with wide wheels to accept 180 width tires is so they can run them in World SuperSport, where rwhp is, what, somewhere around 130?, and the rear tire is subjected to lots of hard throttle exiting corners.
Do you need this with 70 rwhp? Not really. Not even if you're racing.
