This. Bungs mounted this way, I think, are not near any joins or openings in the engine casing and so shouldn't have oil anywhere near them. It sounds like the engine casing is cracked or the oil is making it's way down onto the bar/bungs on the outside the casing from a leak higher up?

That was the case, but after replacing the bolt with the OEM one, it stopped leaking. Engine case is dry as sand..

Perhaps they'd been recently installed and a copious amount of oil had been used to lubricate them during installation? I can think of very little else that would fit the symptoms.
