I just had a lovely card from the wife, she knows how to spoil me. We are off out to romantically mooch about in the horrible weather together now, because we love walking along the sea front when the waves are crashing and the sand and raw human sewage are being blown around like toxic paint stripper.

Ahhh valentines day ... it's no more meaningless than your birthday or Christmas or any other anniversary. The passage of 365 days is almost completely meaningless in itself, and if you thank that it isn't, you're wrong.

So the Earth has orbited the Sun completely and that means we should all congratulate ourselves on the fact we were squeezed out of a vadge 'x' many years ago? Really?

Valentines day is no worse really. So it was invented, yes, but why is this invented day of love less significant than the day you scurried from your mother's nether region? At least love is current ... I would hope most of us have not been near our mother's nether regions in a VERY long time, unless you are a full time carer and have been giving wiping responsibility today.

It's all rubbish, all of it. I say just climb aboard whichever bandwagon is heading in the direction that tickles your fancy.

Oh by the way I didn't bother to send you a card this year, I'm not sure you appreciated the Zombie one last year.

I think it is lovely that we have one day year when we can tell the kids to just shut up and go to bed, it is our night and no they are not going to share the Chinese meal with us. Saying that DJ would be in big trouble if he wasted his money on overpriced flowers, any other day of the year is fine (apart from Mother's day same rules apply)!

Couldn't agree more G, we celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary last week and we don't bother with valentines day, we show our love all throughout the year not just for one day.
IMO, it's for people dating not married or for people in long term relationships.
