Where I come from (Cannock, Staffordshire), car drivers that do notice you will actually move across to try and block you and make your life as difficult as possible. They are very anti-bike round here and there is a very high percentage of aggressive drivers amongst us (probably worse than London because most London drivers know that a bike is a good way to get through the traffic, even if they haven't got a bike themselves or wouldn't even buy one. But Here they are just plain aggressive for the sake of it and make bikers lives as dificult as poss for the sake of it! They are pathetic and I hate them )
And here.....

mabe its got something to do with the HUGE mirrors the lorry guys have
I doubt its coz of the mirrors as they are usually much higher than a cars.

Dissagree. Artic drivers are usually pretty good. Usually, if they're crawling in traffic and have a few inches to spare, then they'll do their best to give you as much space as they can. If you're in the second lane on the motorway, they'll pull out of lane one and run you over without thinking about it, just because they want to drive at 56mph and the truck that they want to overtake is only doing 55.9mph.

Rigid drivers (fnarr) seem to be as bad as white van man, although the extra weight of their vehicle means that they don't whip around as quickly as a transit, and you've got a little more time to figure out what they're up to.

Ahhhh but this thread is about "Filtering"..............

Nuff said.

I spend my whole trip home up the motorway undertaking or filtering due to traffic build which is down to bad lane discipline in the first place. I know what they are like on high speed roads also.

Only once or twice have I had people intentionally close the gap, but when it happens it's enraging. One particular time the guy had definately seen me (looked in the mirror then edged over). What do people think they're achieveing? One co-worker mentioned he does it, "If I have to wait, bikes should too..." - I felt like swinging for him

On topic: My brother works on the ferries at Portsmouth (in fact, he says he regularly sees an SV650 going over to the isle of wight, could be one of guys) and is considering getting a scooter to commute just because the traffic is so bad.

Nothing, but nothing, pi***s them off so much as having a bike or scooter trundle past them - always assuming that they see the bike in the first place
That sounds exactly like Cannock - because the Cannock area has very heavy traffic, cars spend a lot of time stationary or crawling so when there is movement or a clear road, they try to make up for it by speeding fast and drive too close + getting in the wrong lane and cutting up just to get one place further forward (again, to make up for the previous queues). Also verging on road rage because they take out there problems on the road (a lot of problems here like crime, violence, unemployment, etc)

Shamelessly cos this has nothing whatsoever to do with filtering in Portsmouth.

Oh Lord, what have they done to Cannock. I'm sure that once it was a nice place but there's more road and earthworks than town, add to that all the pylons, the ugly Sainsbos and the Caterpiller factory and it well TBH ain't that scenic

If anyone saw the recent news articles regarding the number of people running through red lights is up, i personally believe this is part if not all of the reason for it. Impatience due to the amount of traffic on the road. The roads will only get more dangerous for bikes with the increase of traffic, no doubt filtering will soon be for the risk takers! Perhaps the nanny state will intervene by making it illegal!!!!

A mate off ours got knocked off by some guy running a red light. The guy got sent down now but he stuffed up his leg and he can't join the army. Only just got the external fixator off and is walking about after a year. Trying to take him out of a GSXR at the moment... start off a bit easier.... (Was all in the Portsmouth News)
All cause some one was in a mood after a arguement with there Dad, people just don't seem to think about their actions. But even I've done stupid things that when I look back are so close. All of which I deeply regret.

Anyway.. maybe some more filtering tomorrow... new working day.

No real filtering for me today. Roads were quiet. Perhaps the cold put people off.

Well it was nice and easy for me this morning, only had to filter to the Cosham round-about. Rest of it was a little bit slower that the limit, but free flowing. Looks like it might be nice the rest of the week, but as I'm on-call I won't get much chance to get out! Well it will give me time to look over the bikes and sort the LED's maybe even wire in the horn relay on my wifes Duke and sort out a few nice things on my SV.
Oh and paint....
