my mate has a k1 gsxr6 and its a very nice bike. i rode it once and found it very lacking in shove til around 7krpm but then it took off. its also a lot more comfortable than i expected. personally i like the low down grunt and instant power af a twin, rather than having to drop down a gear and revving the nuts off it to get anywhere! the suspension put the sv's to shame though, as did the brakes.
an sv will keep up with the gixxer to 100mph though, so you could spend the cash saved on improving the sv and have a real good bike!

I have ridden a gixxer, and currently own an 02' SV. The gixxer is not anywhere near as comfy as the SV. Harder on the wrists. (as well as the wallet!!) It would be more sensible to buy the Sv and spend the xtra cash on upgrades. my 2 cents.

I think it's bull**** and depends on the rider [a supermoto isn't gonna suddenly turn people into a really quick rider!].
ride with guys who have a range of bikes from busa's to cbr6's
begining of year struggled to keep up with them sold sv bought a ktm and now the rolls are reversed all mid range true they will beat you on the straights but in the twisties not a hope in hell of keeping up with me also can afford to throw it down the road as the most expensive plastic on it is the front mudgard which is 24 quid not saying its better than sports bikes just improved my riding no end also with higher seating position can read the road so much easier......
ps will also wheelie of the power in first and second with great ease!!!

each to thier own and all that!!

Bike magazine did an article on that subject some time ago with an R1 versus a super motard. Somewhat unsuprisingly, the R1 crapped all over the Super Motard in all riding conditions.
