How does one prime the system? Lets assume one has a dry, unused Scottoiler - obviously if you just fill the tank up with oil it's going to take a long time before it bleeds through the pipe to the chain assuming the chain oil has a standard viscosity!

to prime it, start the engine then put pressure into the reservoir by doing what I suggested doing to fill it up.

Turning the flow rate up to max first, or you'll be there all day!

No need to start the engine, just turn the adjuster to "Prime", and to make it easier still, connect the rubber filler plug to the bottle, not through the filter as some have suggested, and pressurise the reservoir that way.

How long it takes to fill depends on how long the delivery tube is, and the route taken.

Unless there is still a significant amount of oil in the delivery tube, when the reservoir is empty, the tube won't refill on it's own, the oil is drawn through the system by the weight of the oil in the tube, no oil = no weight = no working.
