Yep, I saw it, and that couldn've happened to anyone... Notice that he didn't actually say he'd used a torque wrench, that was just Viney... He's not the first person to crack one of those, or a jet (I had one of my stock jets break when I was removing it, for example)

The court finds in Mr Charnley's favour, on this occasion But remember, if you keep on throwing about brake grease etc all the time in irrelvant threads, it'll stop being funny faster- if you save it for relevent ones, we'll still be laughing in December

Whenever you change the oil, you may as well change the filter as well - it doesn't cost more then a few quid and will help protect the engine further.
I used to change the oil & filter inbetween services but never did the sump plug washer! Just kept forgetting to get one but as it was changed at each service by the dealer any way, it wasn't really a problem!

As for the spark plugs...

You may as well change them as well. They're not stupid money and when I picked up my bike after the 7,500 service (was about 700 miles overdue as I forgot & then they were fully-booked!), it performed noticeably better.
Whenever I have changed the plugs in my cars, there has been noticeable improvements too.

I also believe that when chutz changed his, he noticed an improvement!

It's not something you'll notice degrading but when you change them, you'll probably notice the difference! However, you might not!

The front one was also a bit of a mess on Ian's bike and on mine it wasn't great! I didn't have to try and get mine out though, as I had it serviced by a dealer!

1) Semi Synthetic motorcycle oil - I think it's 10w40... Ask at your dealers & they will recommend one for you - I used silkolene.

2)I would stick to manufacturer's spec if the bike is still within it's warranty - these, iirc, are NGK ones and your dealer should have stock of them. Some people will swear by Irridium plugs though!

3)Again - if inside warranty, I would stick with a Suzuki one... They're not much more expensive than other makes either. Otherwise - perhaps a K&N

I just changed my spark plugs at about 27500 miles as the bike started playing up, now they should have been changed as per the service schedule though looking at them they never have. But they where only .1mm out though the rear was a bit oily and the front looked a little burnt out. But the main problem was the porcelain was breaking down. So you'll be surprised what you can get away with, I think the main thing that saved mine was the mudguard extender. And I'm not exactly softly, softly with the bike.

It depends upon your bike's mileage. I would suggest that if it's done under 5k miles then a standard mineral oil would be more beneficial than a semi-synthetic oil as it will allow the pistons/bores to bed in better creating a better oil seal and extending engine life.

If it's done more than 5k it's probably better to use a semi-synthetic but here's the important bit: it's not the quality of the oil, it's how often you change it that's more important. Using something like Halford's semi and changing the oil every 2.5-3k miles will be far better for the engine than using the most expensive oil you can find and changing it every 5k.

Standard plugs should really be fine, just get the correct spec ones.

They're all much of a muchness and as with oil just make sure you change it regularly (every other oil change is fine). Pop into Halfords and pick up a Champion K301, it's cheaper than buying one from your dealer and is every bit as good.
