The dog started going mental as the bike was about to go past it and then the kid just let go of the dog lead The dog shot infront of the bike, I panicked as the dog was right under the front wheel and gave it a big fistfull of front brake and the front locked on the icey road, luckily because I was going so slow I just put my feet down to stop the bike going over. At this point I'm trying to gather my thoughts as I was shaking like a girl and the dog was still going nuts trying to have me for tea!
By the sounds of it you encountered a distant relative of my Terry

Terry attacks everything that moves. Last time we let him off the
leash was in 1998 (he was 1 year old then) and it all ended with
him attacking a group of horses with riders on them. We never let him off
the leash since. And we would never allow a kid to walk him. Only
a really strong adult with special training can control him.

This is the reason why all bikers should carry humane killing devices... Dog (& small boy) bolt-gunned on the side of the road & left for the council refuse collection

Easy option

Glad you & the bike escaped unscathed Porky

I'm a dog owner and I consider myself a responsible one at that... those that aren't really **** me off... not so much for them, but of the dogs they ruin - many of which end up being out down as dangerous or uncontrollable when all they needed was a decent level of discipline and training.

The vast majority of the time with 'bad' dogs it's the owners who need to be corrected and not the animals.

In all honesty I would suggest you contact the RSPCA about the owners and their attitude. You'll possibly be doing the dog a favour.
There maybe not much they can do now (RSPCA don't have half the powers and funding they should have in my opinion), but at least it will get noted in case it happens again. History builds and eventually they can action it - hopefully.

I used to have this all the time. A dog that was allowed to run free used to go mental and chase the bike every time I went passed. I used to constantly have to slow down and carefully go past and then blat away. Well after a few days I got fed up with this, so the next time I went up that road, I slowed as normal, but when the dog got close enough, I sped up and gave it a boot right in the chops. Funnily enough the dog never chased the bike again, in fact completely the opposite, it used to high leg it down the road back to its house.

Default Even dogs on leads can be lethal!!!

Here's one for you. . .

I'm riding down the road a little over 20mph passing some parked cars on my left, when a little scottie dog wanders out from between some cars and walks across the road. I slow down (naturally) and when I'm pretty sure the dog is set to cross all the way across the road (I'm really creeping down the road now), I decide it's safe to continue and I'm just about to roll the throttle when . .

SUDDENLY! I'm aware of this spidery line in my vision. . and a little old lady appears between the parked SUV's. She's got one of those extending leads at full stretch so the dog is nearly on the other side of the road before she even appears.

Little old lady. Little dog. Both attached by a nice strong bit of string.

I honestly wonder which would have come off worse!
