You certainly do for powdercoating... I'm sure you could spray them without stripping the forks down, maybe even without removing them from the bike, but i'll be hader to prep them and get a good finish...

You can hammerite with black spray (use Zinc primer). 4 coats and it looks swell. My calipers look crap but the hammerite stands up to road **** and looks as good as the day I painted. Don't need to take the bike apart either, just remove wheel and mask and newspaper what you don't want painted.

Re painting the fork legs, the zinc primer, did you find it in a spray can I've only found it in a tin so far.

Yep it's in BNQ next to the hammerite sprays. Cost about £8 as it's the stuff to use on aluminium opposed to standard stuff that flakes off.

There is no point in polishing corrosion out as it's removing the original laquer further and next winter they really will look like ****e. Been there.
