If its a new bike you are getting the dealer should tell you all that on delivery. I wasnt told to warm up the bike, I have an SV650s K4 and its been doing fine.

I always start the bike once the helmet is on but before gloves. about 30 seconds max, if the gloves are being fiddly.
Embee (a man who should know about these things) says to only wait till the fast idle eases off (ie, goes below 2k)

I'll be waiting a long time. Until someone moves the choke lever in fact.

Yeah, but if you don't know how to warm your bike up by now, then you're definitely in trouble.

i normally leave the choke on full untill i have my gloves and helmet on, (jacket allready on) and then reduce the choke down to 1 1/2 to 2 and ride off for about 1/2 a mile, until its warm, then let the rest of the choke out. normaly fine then, but this is on a 99 model. dont know about the more modern ones.

i used to fire it up, get helmet and stuff on, then go.

but i read somewhere that this actually causes damage, you need to warm it up under load,

so fire it up and ride it straight away, just take it easy gradually building up power.
