I've been saying that as well.
I never found them that bad, even in the wet.

if there was something wrong with dunlop d220's suzuki wouldn't use them!

seriously what do people expect from a budgety bike? you bitch and whine about the budget suspension, you bitch about the budget brakes, you bitch about the tyres, what the hell do you expect suzuki to do? launch a budget bike at £5500 otr? after dealers discount them? if you had better brakes you could expect a price hike, if you had better suspension you could expect a price hike, you think tyres are any different?

the SV had low quality rubber coz its cheaper than fitting BT014's you cannot then bitch about that as it is part of the bike! you bought the bike! you get the rubber with it!

Never ridden on them, but I think people can expect too much at times, if they were sticky as hell and dead in 3000 miles a lot of people riding SVs would be annoyed. People use these bikes to commute, do motorway journeys, track days all sorts, you can't fit a perfect tyre for all conditions so you fit one that fits what most people will want from the bike most of the time.

Oh and for the record when I got my bandit it was on the original Bridgestone Exedras... Now there's a nice block patterned crossply tyre! At least the dunlops are radial!

Oi itching...at least out bikes have suspension that works, brakes that work, and a full set of gears ya big pimp.

The dunlops, like the metz's are probably fine for some riders, and not others, just like all the other components.

Hell, look at the new ZX10, its got everything you need, but i still bet that the owner will do it up!

blah blah blah! the SV is a great bike with loads of potential. just because you dont like the rubber on the bike doesnot mean the rubber is crap! I have indeed riden on 010's, 012's 014's 020's, diablo's, bt45's, exedra's, bt56's, resports, and d220's there have been good moments there have been bad moments! take for example my experiance at silverstone on the 014's in the wet, I had a really bad day on them and hated them, I will never put them on one of my bikes again but for everyone else I speak to they really rate them! each to their own I think applies here and I would use the D220 and have every intention of using some I have just aquired. ramble, ramble, ramble.

Considering that the SV is bought by a lot of new inexperienced riders (that would be me ) ... it doesn't have a sticker that says "WARNING - THESE TYRES HAVE A TENDENCY TO SLIDE IN COLD WET CONDITIONS" ... that's what happened to me and several other people have found this also

I don't have any problem with D220's in the dry. But I like to take every opportunity to warn other bikers of their poor handling in cold and wet conditions In the hope that this may prevent someone else having an accident like mine

There are numerous posts, warning other bikers, about how poor the D220's are. However, I have read nothing but praise for the handling of the BT020, Z6 and Road Attacks in all conditions.

Just for the record my 020s did exactly the same thing and were never confidence inspiring at all. All tyres unless properly warm have a very limited amount of traction in adverse conditions, and even then it's still nothing compared to how they handle in the dry.

I honestly thing we're made to expect more than is reasonable by all the magazine reviews that are written to excite the reader.

He's being serious as well , they are more or less like new so I hope you like them Joe.

I do agree with what's being said up to a point. The D220s are just not good at anything though and do take ages to warm up, so it's not so bad when the weather's good but in this country you spend a lot of time riding in the wet and that's when they really let you down as they just don't grip and if I was given the choice of tyres when buying the bike I wouldn't mind paying extra for something else.

I am sure for what I am gonna fit them to and for the use they will get they will be purfect, I am not gonna be racing on them just commuting. And yes perhaps given the choice we would all consider a different tyre for a little extra cash, but then some people would rather get used to the bike before experimenting with different tyres.

btw my risde to work is about 20 miles of country and fast roads so I should have them nice and toasty by the time they get there :P

I think it's more a case of the D220's not being up to the SV brakes. On my old ER5 the BT45 tyres were rubbish but I had a medium single disc on the front to brake. The SV has larger twin discs and the D220's can't handle that sort of braking power. Maybe this is why more experienced riders see them as less of a problem than newer riders, as newer riders have less feel of what is going on?

I could never use more than 2 fingers on the front brakes with the D220's and the best I ever got in 4000 miles was the back end going slightly light on a warm day in a straight line while braking. Got Diablo Stradas now and I can use 4 fingers and lift the back end off the ground under the same conditions.

I never felt that the D220's were unsafe, but I wasn't happy with their performance - now I can actually use the brakes to their full potential which has boosted my confidence even more. And I haven't been anywhere near getting the Pirellis to slide... not yet anyway
