In fact, if you don't question your abilities everytime you have an incident that you hadn't intented to happen, then you will never learn. Taking responsbility for the mistake is the first part of learning how to not do it again.

I don't think there are many on here who've been riding for more than a year or so who haven't chucked a bike down the road at some point or another (some more than most)

Now do your test and get an SV, you'll love it.

Chin up love!

as said before, I don't think there's many bikers out there who haven't either binned it or come very close and learnt a heard heart stopping lesson. When I first passed I was going into corners in the morning and getting on the power too early, rear wheel slides that scared the life out of me, could have lost it a few times. I'v elearnt now and have a lot more respect for road surface, warm tyres etc.

Three months after passing my test I binned my SV on a corner, about 30-35mph on a bit of diesel. Initially i thought I was blameless, but experience has tought me other wise, i wasn't watching the road properly and went over the bus stop leant over. Bus stops are a bugger for diesel spills, i know this now and avoid driving over them if i can help it.

Keep going, stay within your limits and don't get complacent. every hour you're out there will teach you a little more

Dont be too hard on yerself. Most of us have bitten the dust in the past! It does shake you up and nibble away at your confidance for a while though.Think positive and really think through what happened and hopefully this might arm you for the future.

Remember, there are two types of riders (according to my better half!):
Those who have had an accident and those who are going to have an accident.
So you've had your accident, and can get on with enjoying riding!

Well, this is what he told me when I had mine, and like e.d. it was just before my test (day before), but I got back on and passed.

Good luck with your test, and Go For It!

Scooters are horrible unstable things anyway so it's not even certain that the accident would have occured had you been on an SV.

Hmmmm.......... passing your test (congrats BTW ) gives you your licence to use the road. It doesn't mean that you can ride well or safely - that comes with hours on the road. Sorry - not meant to sound patronising, but you know that I mean.

Jenni - yesterday was possible the first day that it's rained in your area for a week or two. The roads may have been more slippery than they would have been simply through being wet. You've learnt a hard lesson and will think about it next time.

Once you've passed your test and got used to the bike, perhaps you could think about some advanced training. I did a Bikesafe course with the local and can't believe the confidence that it gave me.

Hope that your @rse doesn't hurt too much
id recommend IAM's more.

having never done a bikesafe day . .. its not really fair for me to comment . . but i am going to anyway.

a bikesafe day is an assesement,
an IAM course is pure training and assesements.

Thankyou everybody. I feel much better after reading all your replies.

I went to check out the bike and it's not too bad, main things are front brake was leaking, engine casing is knaked and i lost the left wing mirror.

I suppose I am glad it happened on my scooter rather than a new sv.

thanking my lucky stars at the moment

Remember the old saying:

"That that doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger" (or something like that )

What Toypop said was correct - Scooters are very unstable compared to "proper" bikes.

I know you won't quit. If nothing else just simply ride slower and you won't feel as though you are going to slide off again. Very slowly and steadily your experience, skills and speed will increase without you even noticing - bingo!
That's what I've done. 2 - 3 years ago I was rubbish on a proper bike (even though I'd ridden a Honda C90 for best part of 10 years) and I thought I'd never ever get better, but slowly I have without realising, because if I look at my speed, cornering and control in bends that I can remeber trying 2 years ago, I now think "yeah I've definitely improved a lot since then". Some of us just take longer to get there!
