STOP PRESS......

Quotes were with Bennetts so used Ebike insurance the quotes have halved.

£240 for Sv and £470 for Kwak....thats sounds a bit better!!!!

TBH I have done nothing but think about it all night and the only thing that is making me hesistate is the mileage on the Kwak...

Is 16K high on a 3 1/2 year old bike? Am I right to worry about mileage on bikes?

I started on a cb500 an then an sv650s and i reckon that there a lot to be said for learning slowly on smaller machines that you can push harder without really scaring youself.

I have done a few trackdays and although i am an average rider i have regually passed 1000cc bikes in the benginners group that were not being ridden hard enough because the people riding them hadent got the experince to ride such a machine.

The 636 will be a faster bike but will you really use that speed or just get scare youself silly.

Basically its not how fast you go, how good your bike is, its really how much fun you are having and that where sv's are great, on paper they look pretty poor but they have great fun factor.

16k isn't high milage, you don't need to worry about that. However the two bikes are worth the same, yet insurance on the kwak is twice that of the SV - the reasons for this are what you should be worrying about...

i would say if ure just starting out stick with the sv for a while and if the feeling for a sports 600 is still there then and only then take it further.they are way too easy to go faster than u think and lose your licence on ,more importantly your life ,.the sv is fast enough for most and u might even get close to pushing it a bit ,whereas most peeps cant get close to a sports 600s limits .my m8 had an sv for 3 months and changed it for a gsxr 600 and only now will he admit to being scared of it .if u can ride the wheels off an sv(as if)then change it for something faster

I agree, that the top end if significantly different and will probably scare me...but once you've done it, thats it! Not scared anymore. The bike won't physically make you go into bends any quicker...it all depends on confidence i suppose!

If because you get on a quicker bike you ride quicker and scare yourself than thats life and you should have a bit more sense than to think your up to the bikes limits already...its a gradual process I know that!

Did your mate enjoy his Gixer....Was he pleased he swapped? Does he miss anythign about the SV? Thats what I need to know?

i think at the end of the day he enjoys having a gixxer but he realises that he could lose that easier than the sv .its true that the throttle works both ways but he (and many others) are really only scratching the surface of it,.if you can be sensible the bike itself is in no way dangerous its the person whos on it.this applies to any bike as you could lose it on a 125 ,but the biggest diff is on a 125 its gonna b 60/70 tops,on a gixxer 130+ .and believe me you will go faster,i did when i was on it .all in all a good(and fast)bike if your up to it get one but treat it with respect its not a toy .be safe whatever you do
and btw he misses nothing about the sv he loves the gixxer
