I can't help but go over 5000rpm...the bike wants me too...Riding at such slow speeds is a sin against nature. I'm trying to get it over with as quickly as possible...doing miles per day...full power...aye aye skipper

My Dealer told me not to hammer it as if there was a warranty claim on a blown engine they could plug it in the computer and check what youv'e been doing.I don't know wether it's true on the bike but car mechanics have said the same about cars to me.
Made me real nervous when running mine in though. Parky... |

An expensive diagnostic EMS on a SV?
I don't think so mate, they tell everybody that so you don't gas it. Once the engine is warm give it some gas, you know you want to. |

i may have mentioned this before that i have a friend whos a egineer (mechanic) for a track team, and they bang brand new engines in the bikes and they do 10 laps at low revs the rest is full power.... i know tey go through like 3 engines a year but even he doest think that 1000 mile run in is nessercery (how the hell do you spell that?). i ran mine to about 300 miles then took it to about 8k then afterthe 600 mile service that was done at 750 miles as i had to wait 2 weeks till it could be done i tool it to 10k till 1000 then that was it.... also i dont know what they do to it on its first service but it felt totally smoother after it. i wonder if its like the kwaks where they cut that wire thing on the first service? |

Sigh...some fool in a VW Corrado...burnt me off from the lights...running-in is one long suffering moment. I like Corrados. Nice looking motahs. Some baseball ball cap wearing scamp. 0-60 a damn sight slower than my BlackJet. Loud exhaust the works...if anyone knows him in the Altrincham area please inform that before this month is out, said gentleman will get an education in the definition of accelaration.
![]() Hondas don't run in...just keep it calm for the first 300 miles. The bike revs so freely that it doesn't seem to mind...The gearbox needs running in though...It feels like the gearbox and engine have never met socially and have a grudge against each other. I thought Suz gearboxes were the toast of the nation...slicker than a greased shovel...bloody BIKE magazine. I would have hoped that production values have increased over the years...just because the GS1000 had to be run in is not true now. I'm trying to find an angle on the bike in which it doesn't look drop dead gorgeous...not found it yet...but i'll keep trying...black really is the new black. |
