Hardly ideal since I've only had the hornet for 2 months.

Do you get many folk wanting to sell their sv's for bikes like hornets?
Where's Jabba & Sythree now

Nice one

The gearbox has smoothed out and is starting to feel good
Still find it uncomfy. Almost there first sevice already booked.

The SV differs from the Hornet because the SV engine goes bwahh and the Hornet goes whoosh. The Hornet doesn't vibe either. The SV rattles like a motorcycle should. The SV engine does more than give forward momentum...this is it's 'character'.
The SV looks miles better than the Hornet too. Espesh in Black.

Even got a nod from a Ducatisti...obviously knew a good looking V-twin when he sees one.

My SV was in for some mods today and the dealer gave me a new bandit 650s to play on while I waited, the engine purred bit didn't roar, the cornering felt almost as if I had training wheels on almost impossibe to get wrong, the riding position was comfortable but put me in mind of a scooter, in short I felt I was just riding the machine not part of the riding experience
When I got my SV back it just felt so comfortable and right - all the feedback and experience - I just had to do one of my fave runs.

Whether a mass produced V-twin has soul needs a theology scholar and a large grant to solve.

Too surgical...I was watching a programme called big big bikes on discovery or summat...about the MV Agusta...the people who designed it..built it..tested it...love it...and part of this love is retained in the bike. Just like Concorde...far more than a big pointy noisy thing..perhaps this is where 'soul' comes from. A person has designed something as art rather than function. But it still functions.
Whether a mass produced V-twin has soul needs a theology scholar and a large grant to solve. But then, a Deauville also has a 650cc V-twin. If it is purely an engine config thang...then the Deauville will have 'soul' too.
Innit something like the worth of its whole being more than the sum of its parts? Getting a bit metaphysical here.

*Although in terms automotive if you were to build a vehicle from individual parts you would probably end up paying more than if you bought the same vehicle from a dealer...

A synergy! But if you did build a bike from spare parts it would cost a fortune. My friend's dad owned a BMW dealer and to build a 320 from scratch using the spare parts prices would cost around £80,000! And that was a few years ago. I'd imagine the increased cost would be comparable with bike building
