it shouldn't invalidate your theft cover unless it's specifically stated that a valid MOT is a requirement. they might claim it does- if they do, and don't back up, you want to say very calmly that you want to make a formal complaint as a precursor to taking it to the ombudsman, and that you'd hoped to settle the matter civilly without recourse to legal action. These are statements that get any insurer thinking harder

I think there is a database of MOTs now is'nt there?Let's face it every other detail is on a database so why not MOTs?Best not to bull**** them but tell them you hav'nt got it if they persue it.I don't think they can decline your cover for not having the MOT.

Your insurance isn't invalidated - however as stated above the insurance company usually want to see the MOT cert, if you don't have one the valuation will be affected, however if they don't ask...

I wouldn't volunteer the information in your circumstance.

But they always do in my experience.

Your insurance is valid. The insurance co will try and not pay out or pay out a reduced sum using the lack of MoT as an excuse. Dont accept this and go to the insurance ombudsman if necessary. Remember Insurance Companies are glorified bookies, just not so well dressed.

IMO it depends where it was stolen from.... if it was private property, then you should be covered - as you can insure a bike, even if it's not roadworthy.

If it was on the road, in an unroadworthy condition, then it shouldn't really have been there, and they might try and wriggle out of it.

Either way, you are, hypothetically, in a tricky situation. Read the small print of your policy, and check the law concerning MOT's.
