Its all about discretion. There are a number of ways which you can be dealt with. Verbal warning, vdrs (rectification notice), £30 fixed penalty. All depends on the cop and his/her priorities i guess, and the attitude with which you approach the situation. IMO not many regular cops are going to even bother you as many dont know the difference between a baffled and unbaffled can. Its the traffic cops which will be more informed in this area. I'd have to check if it comes under the endorsable umbrella as there are a host of offences which come under it. As far as number plates go, same as above however if you're using the standard font, and it isnt much smaller than standard (2 lines) then you'll probably not get too much bother. Its when its italic/one line/the letters have been altered or moved to make it look like something else.

This might be a bit off point, but would you pass the MOT if you put the baffle back in for the test using a small screw and a nut?

What I mean is do you have to have the baffle riveted as from factory or would you get away with using a small screw and a nut to fix it in place?

Anyone have any ideas about this?

Some of the removable baffles are only held by a nut and screw so it isn't a problem, they don't need to be riveted, just present

On the points issue, you'd have to be pretty unlucky to get 3 points for a can, only ever heard of one person getting it and thats because he'd been told off for it multiple times, usually just a £30 fine and a rec notice

When i removed the baffles from the Carbon Can Co can i have, i just drilled out the rivets then drilled out the hole left by the rivet and tapped it out to M5.

That way i can stick `em back in ( though i dont know why i would want to )

Will someone knowledgable please advise of the offence and endorsement code that provides for 3 points to be issued for a can?

It certainly is not endorsable under a construction and use offence as only those that are dangerous carry an endorsement. at worst it could be covered by an MS60 but I doubt a court would endorse under this as it would be too easy to over turn given the set penalties for construction and use.
