You're all wrong, on the pointies the tank prop has a large, plastic coated, ring on one end, (if your's doesn't, you've got the wrong one), this fits neatly around the stem top nut, not in any holes.

Yep - that's how I do it!
Thank goodness Sid Squid turned up and clarified that. I was scratching my head trying to work out what holes they were trying to wedge the ring into.
