The tail's not supposed to be watertight at all. The side panels don't meet the underside for that matter. Common on many bikes that, making it watertight wouldld call for a very tight fit, which would be difficult to fit and remove.

Yeah, but will that work with a pillion seat?
  I might well have to invest in one of them there single seat cowls though, just need to think of a way to justify it to the missus........ |
