Most 125's are way less than 33bhp. Mine was about 12bhp I think. 33bhp was quick enough for an inexperience rider as I was back then.

33bhp is not quick enough for me, 10 months after a 33 bhp licence pass. Rs125s and similar will put out about 25bhp

TBH I think it's in the nature of bikers to **** and moan about unfair rules

i do agree that the changes are going to discourage alot of people from biking! i think its fine as it is! i have had a 33BHP bike for over 22 months now and i still love riding it!! (But i am buying a bigger bike very soon) Its only 2 years! its not long!

and i dont count my self as a inexperienced rider! i have been on the road just short of 4 years and clocked up thousands and thousands of miles! i know my SV like the back of my hand! (2 scars and a mole) my sv does a ton! it can beat almost every car off at the lights! it wheelies! stoppies! it corners like f*ck (just ask the lads out side thorpe park this afternoon!) i do everything on my sv! touring! filtering! motorways! b-roads! a-roads! country lanes! i take my mate on the back (whos 6 foot 5) and i can still have fun! I dont see the point in taking a chance on de-restricing the bike when you have soo much to lose!
i am one of thease people who are unlucky! i know if i derestrict my bike before my time is up i will either 1.Die 2. crash and not be insured! 3.Get caught by the fuzz! and out of all of thease i would not beable to get my new bike!

now is it worth it?? i say NO! but its your choice!

The rules are driven by the statistics. Loads of young riders die while riding sportsbikes, very few while driving high performance sports cars.

We can't have it all ways. On the one hand we're saying speed cameras should only be used where the stats say they're needed, on the other we're saying the stats shouldn't be used for restricting riders of high powered sportsbikes, where they show they'd make a difference.

Cheers Keith

I'd accept your points if they weren't all followed by exclamation marks. Yes, technically I'm uninsured, but it's highly unlikely I'm going to get court, they are not going to open my bike up and check, I have a certificate. Secondly, 33bhp is absolutely **** all, unless you ride like a complete pansy,a nd if you think it's fast anough, fair enough, maybe you like being overtaken by 125s. I don't. I didn't pass ym test to **** about with breathless big bikes, I bought a big bike because I knew I could handle it, and lo and behold, I can . And before anyone says, Yes, I have crashed this bike, but none of the crashes has been to do with the power of it at all, so it's had no effect what so ever, except it's now fast in a straight line. If you don't trust yourself to double the power, then don't. Personally, I think the best course of action is ot get used ot a bike, get your certificate for it to be restricted then get comfortable, then take your restrictors out. And I'm not a dumbass thank you very much.

if we're going to look at this sensibly we should consider staged licenses, why not go back to 50 cc at 16, 125 on car licenses, then 33bhp then full bike at 21

that way anyone could get a lot of road experience on a 125 on just their car license then go for full bike license when they're ready, doesn't stop people buying a gsxr1000 but might encourage them to take logical steps to that aim

Thats not fair! Obviously people have too much money these days so you need rules in place to stop them killing themselves and putting our premiums up!
Maybe if you didn't spend all your money on drugs when you were 17 you would be able to afford a 33hp bike. I am a "kid" as you put it, i'm in full time education and also have a part time job. 9 - 4.30 on monday to friday, plus another 25 hours of work ontop of that, not all "kids" have rich parents, some of us actually work for a living.

I put the effort in, and i got a bike back, i passed my test 3 days after my 17th birthday, and i don't need some jumped up old bloke, with a chip on his shoulder because he was a lazy ******* as a child moaning at me because i can afford to run a big bike.

Right, so you put riding with no lisence on a turbocharged bike in the same category as riding a de-restricted bike. Yet you call Matt the dumbass?

Your a typical magazine reading **** chatting loser with nothing better to do, if you had the slightest of experiance on this subject then maybe you'll have written a half decent reply, obviously this is not the case.

I have had 2 crashes on my full power bike, none were down to it being de-restricted (unless a woman pulling out is my fault?) and i have been pulled over 3 times. Hell, i even had part of the A50 closed for several minutes with 2 police cars and an ambulance present. Each time i have been asked if the bike was restricted, simple, i answered yes.
The police will not impound your bike and test it, neither will your insurance company unless you've crashed into a spanking enzo and they owe out £400k.
Therefore, on paper, i am fully insured and legit. I have produced my documents several times, and each time all has been ok, even if i needed to make a claim my insurance would pay out, because on paper, my bike is legal.

So please do not play the "no insurance" card, when you have absolutely no idea what your on about.

Now my 2nd point. How the **** can YOU argue about having no insurance due to a derestricted bike, and then go on to boast about how you've "beaten" (raced) cars off the lights, incase you didn't know, racing without a lisence is illegal, and you can get sent to jail for it. Doing it on a public road is just damn right ****ing stupid. Dumbass!
The exact same can be said about the wheelies and stoppies.

Now, get off your high horse, your no better than anyone else because your bike is restricted and good for you if you think 33bhp is "fun" because i certainly don't.
