Take a look in the manual with your SV - the manual for the pointies states that much of it can be done by any competent person, and only a few things need to be done by a Suzuki dealer (and even then, any competent trade person who knows what they're doing would be as good)
The only times I've had things go wrong with my bikes are when I've crashed them or when I've let someone else service them ![]() |

What sort of mileage do you do?If you do low miles it's probably worth having the 4000 mile service done by Suzuki or a recognized "qualified" mechanic to avoid any potential hassles. If this service falls at about one year, then it will keep your warranty valid for the second year of ownership. After that save the money and do it yourself.

IIRC (and don't quote me) the law regarding this currently requires only that the work be done by a person competent to the task. But then you get into fun and games with definitions. Say your top end explodes at 700 miles- can you prove that there wasn't some sign that a professional wouldn't have noticed at the 600 mile service that could have prevented it?
Could be a job for a good lawyer ![]()
