Thanks for your comments guys.

I'll put it down to being unlucky then. But some thoughts crossed my mind.

Surely if there was insufficient engine oil, wouldn't the lights have at least come on? MY SV had fairings, and the engine oil level is particularly hard to read. Or was rather.

Getting a second engine: I've never bought motorcycle parts from Ebay. How do I know I wouldn't be buying something like my blown-up enging?

Ash - that's true. The tyres also were due to be replaced with Michelin Pilots this week. I'd bled 6,000 miles on them and saved the edges.

What a way to end on 30K miles. Would I be better off just breaking it up and buying a new one? I didn't get on with the non-curvy one. It seemed to stick into me at the wrong places.

Thanks,

Rob

Just for every one elses benefit----Never use the oil light to tell you when to put oil in.That is not how it works as when that light comes on while you are riding you have already destroyed your engine as there is no oil pressure. You simply must check the level in the sight glass at regular intervals.

When you're riding the oil light can be off when the pressure is way less than adequate.

Don't rely on it. Check the oil level.

Together these two indicators are the very same as fitted to, and work in the same way, as the enormous majority of road vehicles, just about every car or bike you can buy has the exact same indicators of oil pressure and level, (cars have dipsticks, but it's the same idea: you look),
