Really sorry to hear this, something similar happened to friends of ours on another site. Because their keys etc. were not in a safe place while they were asleep upstairs.

They lost a BWW car later recovered having been used used in a number of crimes
A BRAND NEW SV650 - never recovered
VFR800 (keys only, but If you loose ALL the keys to a HISS equipped bike you not only have to replace all the locks, unless you still have the key number, but the ECU that they communicate with. How much? only about £1150 fitted).
They also lost other valuable, Laptop, jewellery, helmet etc. etc.

Their Advice. Put your keys in a safe place when you go to bed at night. AND PUT YOUR SPARE KEY AND THE KEY NUMBER IN A DIFFERENT SAFE PLACE NOW.

Gutted to hear this, hope the scum got him by a bus when the crossed the road later that night.

But like PhilMac, ive been there too and it almost became an obsession for me.
The best thing you can honestly do, that your landlord would probably agree to as well, is to get a small safe that can be located at the bottom of a wardrobe and bolted to the wall/floor.

That way you keep most of your valuables in there and at night throw your keys/wallets/purse/kittens/ in there so they are safe and sound till the next morning.

But then you run the risk of having one of these tw@s wake you up and demand you open the safe presuming there are much more valuable things in there than there really are.

Or do the safe thing and leave some old keys and expired credits cards laying in plain view and let then make off with those thinking they've had a result.

Either way, hope you two get over it soon. Its always the knowledge that somones been in your gaff that keeps you awake at nights ime.

Damn, that sucks

A couple of months ago the flat above me was broken into. From what the police told them, it was a couple of guys who walked up and down the street trying to decide which place to target. They eventually targetted upstairs as their front door is a double-glazed door and is out of sight. Because the double lock hadn't been used, they managed to get in just using a screwdriver

Not a lot was taken, just a small tv and some jewellery but it was a nasty thought to know that they had eyed up my place with theft in mind, walked down my front steps, past my front door and burgled upstairs instead.

But i think its still free if you are making a change of address, or cheaper at least.
Worth a try maybe?

probably best to let them know it was robbed.
You never know where it might turn up, save you bother in the long run.

My brother had his place broken into a while ago - they started with just his laptop, but then found the garage keys so ended taking the laptop away on his SV whilst wearing his jacket and lid!

Since then I realised just how many spare keys/garage keys etc were in the letter rack by our front door! So went and bought a safe and they all stay nicely tucked up in there now.

I still leave my car keys there though - but if someone wants to deparately steal a 19 year old Automatic Mini they need their heads examining.

My wallet is attached to my diary with contains most of my life (so much so it has actually been knicknamed 'My Life' ) so that stays with me.

Burglery's a crappy thing to happen to you though. Happened twice to our house when I was a kid - I got paranoid about my teddy bears and would hide them in a box under a blanket. (Hey, I was four dude!) Mainly though because my parents would leave jewelry etc in the bottom of my sock drawer when we went away on holiday.
Both time the house was pretty much ransacked apart from my room each time. Paid to be a kid back then, nothing worth stealing - unlike nowadays.

Glad the authorities/etc were on the ball for you, and that you're both OK.

Change all your passwords, everyone of the them. If they want to they will become you by using your licence and cards etc.

Be a hawk on all bills, credit cards etc. Look for ANY unusual transactions. Disable to bikes by popping a couple of HT leads off. Dont take them fully out, just enough so the bike wont start and close your windows at night!!

Sorry to hear that this has happened mate, and i hope that its all sorted very soonish.

As for a vehicle being stolen with keys, thats only if you are daft enough to leave them in it, which i have never done.....yeah right!
