Just fixed me gate
Thought it would'nt happen to me, thought I had enough deterrent but shown to be wrong.
Bike was behind a padlocked gate, thieves came over wall, did the steering and moved the bike. Then they did the gate and away.
Ground anchor and alarm minimum next time.

Anyway, bike was found in a brook about half mile away. Police had it recovered by a local firm and i'm told it's in thier garage. Dont know what condition it's in.

What's the normal chain of events from here, claim form will arrive soon. I've told Bennets about it being recovered but they say speak to Equity Red Star.

Any thoughts on my next move ?

how did you declare your bike storage to the insurers? did you say it was unchained and ungaraged? i'd find out what state the bike is in first to be honest!

Not been with Bennets long. I declared no added security to the bike and where it was kept. Should get my claim form tomorrow. Fully comp. so may just let them do everything, dont fancy seeing it full of **** and who knows what damage. If I eventually get it delivered back to me after whatever work needs doing and it looks and rides like it did when I last saw it, then that will do.
It was mentioned today that my no claims bonus may stay intact, due to no fault loss, has anyone experienced this. I will ask of course when the insurers contact me.
Still ****ed off .

you are deemed "at fault" if the insurer cannot recover the costs from the third party, in this case the thieves!

I'm with Bennets / aka Equity Red Star and when I had my off I really couldn't fault anything other than time.

Once I'd filled in the forms and sent it off they appointed a local repair shop to uplift the bike from the borders and repair it.

I only ever had conversations with the repair shop after sending the forms in to ERS and they were very professional. As I say the only issue was time whilst they waited from the go-ahead following the damage assessment. [My broken wrist and fracture to the T2 vertebrae had basically healed enough to pick the bike up from them myself]

It remains to be seen what the premiums will be next year though.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, honest opinions and advice.

Moving on, security.
I'm thinking ground anchors, alarms etc.
Any recommendations on manufacturers.

Thought 240V through the gate handle might have an effect

But seriously...................

Almax seem the chains to go for, expensive but the best.

Apart from that I have no idea on ground anchors. I asked on here about Alarms / immoblisers before and 90% of people said they were a pain in the ass and very often left you stranded

If you know somone in fabrications, get them to knock one up, cheaper bya lot, and possibly better materials,
Doesnt matter what chain, just make sure its big...
