I assumed he was from Ireland. Since we alone invented craic and all manner of other class words.
You could be right. We're about equal when it comes to having good craic!

Is there a table anywhere that you can just look up? I was looking for somethingin SVRider.org and here, not much on the 99 bikes it seems.
There are gixxer shocks coming up an the bay of fleas all the time... and i am never quite sure what would work, and be fairly handy to bolt on.
There is a table on here stating spring rate/shock length for a lot of compatible models, but I can never find the b*gger!

I'm only just 11st in gear and have a '99 sv. The ZX shock is a little hard but I prefer it to be that way than the opposite. I might swap out the spring at some point for one a little softer, but I'm certainly in no hurry to do so. With the Ohlins 80kg fronts it's an acceptable balance.

Here is some stuff from racetech,,,

race tech

Spring rate conversion...

I dont know. I have been reading stuff about suspension for ages... and I just dont really get it. At the moment I am working on the princible that whatever i do, will make things better.

I do know that the gold gixxer forks look cool though.

The 00-02 Curvy SV can take the SRAD750 shock with a bit of modding, but the spring is softer than the SV stock one. So not gonna do you much good. Similar shaped ZX6R/10R shock is harder sprung and looks ideal if you're a little bit 'plump'. Lol! I have one of these, it's great.

Pointy SV owners use the newer K-series Gixer units, i think with few or no mods. Others on here will be able to shed light on suitablilty for weight.
i just bought a 2002 curvy for 2k its only got 6k miles on the clock.....i only passed my test last wednesday and reading what they were saying it goes a bit hairy on you round the bends....i`m pooing myself already.

Personally, I don't think they get lairy around bends till you're cracking on a bit... The suspension's not brilliant, in fact it's a wee bit rubbish, but it's not disasterous either. I reckon that you'll not be hitting those limits immediately as a new pass, not unless you're a bit braver and better than I was

Stock shock is average but forks are worse. Stock spring weight (curvy) is about 520, I would say get a little bit stiffer one if you weigh a lot. Stock spring weight is fine up to about 15 stone of rider.

Now this is a question I've been wondering about....I'm close to 18 stone and have a K5 SV650 and am convinced there must be something I need to do with it. I'm heavier than your average rider so surely the stock set up isn't quitable for me....

I don't know enough about shocks though to go doing things without some advice...

Gixxer shocks seem to be the way to go but I wouldn't even know where to start to go looking for sutff on Ebay........

Now if there was some 18 stone bohemoths on here who have been through this already, please feel free to share!!
