I know this bit of road well and use it often to go visit family.. It's a very quick road and very open to wind etc blowing you from one side to the other as there are very few trees etc along it.

From the clips it is difficult to make an opinion on what happened other then to say by the looks of things the rider cut very close infront of the car but dont know if that is just the angle of the camera.

Hard to tell. Personally looks to me as it says this on the website

"escaped with only minor injuries after his bike, which was slowing down to pull into the hard shoulder"

That he was pulling into the hard shoulder and didnt for ever reason see the car on his inside and has cut in front of it. Theres not much IMHO the car driver could have done to avoid that.

this statement is what interests me...

Pc Ian Tanner, of Plympton traffic police, said: “Mr Hortop is lucky to be alive after this incident. He is an experienced motorcyclist who did everything right..."
For a Pc to say that on record to a newspaper may well mean the rider was in the right...or am i missing something glaringly obvious here....

Oh and to me it looks like he is on the right of the inside lane and slows down, car driver aint on the ball and hits him...hard to say though without having full footage isnt it.

To be honest, he is one luck sod and one poor git all in one, though to be honest that could have been soooo much worse !

My money is on the biker getting no or almost no liability when it goes to claims.
Shrug.
I cant see what is really going on here... It is a bit suspect that the biker was going so slowly that the car rammed him. He will still get the pay out though.

"I was actually driving behind the bike when the accident happened. Although rather an unfortunate incident, the motorbike was also travelling at high speeds and undertaking various cars in the lead up to this accident. Maybe motorcycle riders should be reminded that it is illegal to undertake another vehicle. This video highlights how dangerous it can be for all roadusers, and how it is foolish to weave through traffic.
This bit stood out to me. If some stupid bint is going to rant, she can at least get her facts right, cos undertaking isnt illegal

IIRC its more a case of reckless driving if you get caught isnt it - rather than being illegal?

Looks to me like the rider decided to pull into the layby at short notice, the driver then rear ended him cos he was too close? 6 of one half a dozen of the other?

Excuse my ignorance here but with all the discussion taking place about who's at fault something appears really bloody obvious to me.

The car hit him from behind!

When moving in traffic it is your responsibilty to allow enough time and space between yourself and the vehicle in front of you to stop safely (the old 2 sec. thingy).

Isn't it then irrelevant how the motorcyclist was manouvering
