Then that is quite ridiculous to be fined for. Be great if you could find out if it's a fake ticket etc.
What is ridiculous? The law states size X is legal and size Y isn't. If it is smaller than X then it is illegal. Surely this is black and white? It's like saying "I only ran him over a little bit!" Poilce "Oh, that's okay then, off you go!"
I think the point is that the Police really should have better things to do - 7x5 is not that small.
The legal minimum size is 9x7, so 7x5 is almost half that. If you have an illegal plate then you take your chances with the law and shouldn't moan if you're caught.

What he said. if i get a fine for it then i'll suffer it without moaning. I wont be happy for getting caught but i take my chances.

However i do agree that its pretty petty for a City of London cop to be giving out tickets for this sort of thing on a parked bike. Its one thing if the rider is being a bit of a **** and the cop wants to throw the book at him and get him for every illegal thing he can but to give it to a parked bike is really sad imo.

100% within their rights to do it, it's on the road. Full stop....

**** I know but there we go.

They could (in theory) take it to a pound if the tax was out or not being shown too...

Points too for bald tyres too even if it's parked.

I meant, I dont think they can randomly leave a ticket like that.. usualy you get a chance to change whatever is not quite legal on the bike.. within reason... tyres not included in that... not a fine straight up.... I would personnaly take the ticket to a police station, and ask to verify if they issue them first.... it has been known for people to con others with fake tickets...

Same old story and I will ask the same old question

Where does it define the outer dimensions of a numberplate please?

I have had my plate on the last 4 bikes[the same plate] been stopped by traffic police, passed MOT's and it is only 7x5 but the spacing and font are legal. Admit it is an odd reg number[much older than the bikes its been on] and that is one of the reasons I have been stopped but after examination by traffic division it is legal. this involved Mr Policeman and a rule
The City Poice do have some wierd laws and bye-laws in comparison to the county forces
