Not done that but once some muppet turned my fuel tap off. I came to a grinding halt on a busy roundabout

At the risk of sounding dumb - why do motorbikes have kill switches and why are they in such a place as to easily be knocked on by mistake?

If, for example, I drop ALL my oil, I have something in the area of 20seconds to stop the engine before I do some damage. Probably less. I like the Kill switch being where it is.

No idea, but I hate driving my car as it is anyway.

I suppose car manufacturers figure since the engine has a lower average rev, the damage doesn't happen as quickly. Combine this with the fact that a typical car probably has more oil in it.

I'm not sure on the internal workings of a car engine compared to a bike, but maybe car manufacturers figure that the key is easy enough to get to in an emergency like this.

Just my uneducated guess work here.

i believe bikes have kill switches and cars don't is simply because bikes fall over more than cars!

bike on the deck, engine running, in gear, wheel spinning - you'll be thankful of a kill switch.

Yes, if the bikes on it's left side, then you can't get to the clutch or the gear shifter. But the kill switch is in easy reach.

It takes real skill to pass another bike and flick their kill switch off (Mispent youth)

Having fallen off a fully laden VFR, in gear, engine running, very grateful for the kill switch. Meant nice peeps coming to my aid were at no risk from spinning wheel.

But in my embarrassment of falling over, forgot to switch on again! Took several minutes fiddling to remember!

OK...that makes sense. Having not fallen off yet I wasn't aware of it's usefulness!
