Exactly, teat each case individually. Some sort of discretion would have been better used in this particular case though I think. If it was causing a serious obstruction, well that might hmvbe been different.

Well said Mogs.

Sorry Ness, but I couldn't find a "Nero's"

And Mogs, I take your point, but at the ripe old age of almost 45, I've yet to meet a Traffic Warden that is any of the following:
  • Reasonable
    Courteous
    Intelligent

(or one that hasn't had a personality by pass)

A while ago I was a Devils Bridge when a traffic warden turned up. There were about 8 bikes illegally parked on the double yellows across the road from the brew vans and about 10 others on the yellows further down the road.

Give they guy his due, he walked about for about 15 mins asking if anyone knew whose bikes they were as they were on yellows etc. He made a big thing about being there and when they guys who owned the bikes turned up. He had a quiet word that there had been complaints about illegal parking and his boss was on the prowl.

No tickets issued, no illegally parked bikes and everyone his happy. Surely it is the job of these guys to aid the free and safe flow of traffic not to penalise those who turn up late, and find all the legal parking gone

Jelster, I think you did the right thing by talking to him.

It's just - All Irish are Stupid, All English are Arrogant, All Germans are Nazi's that winds me up.

Keep talking to them, you will eventually meet one that has one of your desired characteristics, but perhaps it's as rare as rocking horse poo.

No-ones asking to have things both ways. Parking enforcement is required to keep traffic flowing smoothly or otherwise stop people from parking if they're not permitted (pay and display without ticket etc).

Fining people for being a few inches over the line has nothing to do with either.

I like the saying, "rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of idiots". If wardens are too stupid to identify when someones technically illegal parking is deserving of a ticket or not then they shouldn't be allowed out in public let alone be in such a job.

But everyone knows stupid or not, they're only out to rob motorists blind, so they'll give a ticket to anyone they can.

You want to see a traffic warden run ? Tell them there is a car parked in a bike bay and where it is. I have been known to ride around for 10 minutes looking for one, although in Edinburgh it normally only takes 5 The council has removed bike bays in it's really sensible traffic control plan and it really ****es all over my breakfast when I find some ***** has parked in the one I want to use as there are so few.

Actually a good trick is you come across another biker at the same place, both park so that they can't open their doors/move their car. And take pictures to show that they are parked illegally in case of an insurance claim
