I am lazy, ride my bike every day ... but I like to have a bike that doesn't look like it has been mud wrestling ... so the ACF50 route isn't for me ... it takes 5 mins to wash the bike down ...

I tend to wash it on a Friday after I get home from work (so I don't leave it in the garage salty/mucky) .. then cover everything that is important with WD40, then ride it in the week ... repeat this cycle until spring comes then just wash it when dirty.

Remember if you ACF50 and then just ride and leave your brakes and other moving bits and bobs will take a hit ...

This is the first Winter I 've used ACF 50 , I was under the understanding that it was best to clean bike , coat with ACF and let a protective coat build up .

Previous Winters I cleaned bike weekly & applied WD40

You've got me worried that I am not doing this right .

Do I need to wash bike & reapply ACF 50 every week ?

I clean brakes / chain over Winter so they are fine , worried about the finish now under the ACF

Any one stear me in the right direction

Cheers Steve

From what I understand you apply ACF-50 then leave the bike over winter and wash it all off come summer. The ACF-50 stops the crud eating away at the bike and the crud itself becomes a kind of barrier too. Obviously you still need to take good care of your chain and brakes.

That's exactly what I do... Just makes sure the mank isn't sat on the metal. I reckon you're better to protect it once or twice over winter, and then just leave it to it, than you are to wash it daily and not protect it- reason being, every time you go out you instantly cover a nice clean surface with a fresh layer of moisture and salt, and you probably don't clean it off again for hours.

But it does mean my bike looks like a sea monster

so just browsing this thread from a search, and as its coming up to winter and **** weather, what is the best method for keeping the bike tip top? the application of ACF-50 rarely, or the regular use of cleaning & WD-40ing?

it seems different people prefer different methods, is there one that is better for the bike?

oh and i wont be using it day in day out

I find regular cleaning works, using good quality stuff. Mind you, we keep the bike in the house, so it's easy to keep on top of the cleaning, and it's never sitting around in the damp.

We'll wash the bike down after every ride, then move it into the house so it can dry off properly.

I would imagine washing it down after every ride and then keeping it outside might be a bit of a problem. It may just stay damp and be more prone to going manky

In that case you might be better to use one of the protective sprays instead. We've never had to, because we've never kept the bike outside.
Can't you move it into your digs..................that would make you look REALLY cool
