Now a quick question, which would be more beneficial, should I sort out the rear shock unit or replace my forks with the emulator and springs/oil first to make the most difference?

Forks, no question!!

The rear shock makes the bike a bit better behaved, the emulators and spring in the forks transforms it!!

The fork internals will set you back about £200, the GSXR rear shock about £50. You wouldn't get a much upgrade in bike for +£250 Yet these mods will make your current bike 'feel' like a new one

Eh

Looking at sorting my forks out then, if I'm going down the emulator route its linear springs I think...

Do you need to change any size of springs or weight of oil if your putting emulators in later and is it okay to change the springs and oil before buying the emulator or should you do it all at once?

Oh how little I know,

Cheers

You can do it in two stages if you like. But bear in mind when you fit the emulators, you will need to strip the forks and drill out the damper rods, so you will at least have to catch the new-ish oil or you will need to replace it.

Slap the springs in and 15w oil and as northy says, see how you get on ... just doing the springs will be easy as you don't even need to strip the forks totally, just get the old oil out, be it by hoofing syringe, or by removing the drain bolts, or turning them upside down!!

As a tip if you do go the emulator route eventually then its worth replacing the seals at the same time. Its not a necessity, but you will be kicking yourself that you hadn't replaced them whilst you were in there IF they go 3 weeks later

If cash is tight then 2-stage it, if its not as tight then just do the job properly first time and have done with it as doing forks is a pain in the posterior!!

Did you get any quotes for the parts?

I'm watching some emulators on ebay that I'm hoping to get but apart from that I've just had a quick look at pdq for the other bits.

Racetech have recommended between .80 and 1.00 springs for my sturdy weight, and would that be matched to 15W oil still or 20W?
