I think you'd be surprised Tim, they really don't need to be ridden balls out its as happy pootling along at 60 ish on an A road as it is being ridden hard along your favourite section of twisties.

Yes it has the ability to bite, but once you've got acclimtised to it you'll be able to get good feel from it. Sounds like your being sensible about it, just like I was when I got mine I was a little worried about it and my ability to ride it. But after a couple of months I was much much more confident on it. Its really changed my riding style. I'm much much smoother on it and my throttle control is also much much smoother to.

I think your in for a rather pleasant surprise, I hope you enjoy it.

You've made an excellent choice! The 600 is loads of fun and its not a machine that you have to ride flat out (unless you want to that is). I've found my 600 is fine for poodling around town and yet also loves the open roads and twisties!

Now just pop along to www.gixerjunkies.net and introduce yourself

You don't need to be a nutter to have a gixer, yes there are some who get one them and always talk about b@lls out riding all the time, this is a pile of BS in a lot of cases.

To be honest when I first got the thou I was slower on it on roads I knew well on the SV, the fact was I needed to learn the bike, the engine is fantastic as is the chassis but to go nuts right away (for me anyway) was out as I'd have easilly got myself into bother. Some months later and I'm a much smoother (probably quicker) rider, I don't need to rev the engine to lap two of the tacho either as there is enough punch in that engine at low and mid range to enjoy most easy rides. Yes things do get a tad more interesting when you open her up but you really don't have to ride like a pillock all the time just cos its a gixer.

You'll love it

This is uncanny, we've gone nearly a whole page and nobody's said that IL4s are gutless.

You should be proud Tim, not only on the purchase of a fine bike, but on your honest appraisal of both your accident, and more importantly, your riding attitude.
Good on you.

If more people were this honest with themselves it would lead to less 'over-powered/under-skilled' accidents - and cheaper insurance in the long run (perhaps).

All we need now if for the salt to be cleared of the roads and a bit of warm sunshine.

This will soon be the non-SV650.org soon.

I would have gone for a CBR6 meself...or a bandit12.

Blimey. I didn't realise that he was quite that old.

The pix aren't working for me. Is anyone else having this problem?
Edit: Pictures are working now

Lovely bike, Tim - good choice as long as your beer gut doesn't rest on the tank too much

To be a defector one has to have had an SV in the first place
